TELUS International is looking for a specialist for a linguistic role in the field of technology. The role of the Associate Linguist is to provide linguistic expertise for developing NLP tools for the target language.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Annotation
• Creating grammar rules
• Formulating language templates
• Finding patterns
• Evaluating existing data

Ideal candidates will have native level of fluency in Dutch, German or Brazilian Portuguese

Knowledge and experience

• Solid and comprehensive understanding of the formal aspects of the target language (e.g. grammar, parts of speech, formal/casual/dialects)
• Knowledge/awareness of linguistic terms and concepts
• Working knowledge of complex tools, e.g. CMS, SQL, Advanced Excel/Sheets
• Some knowledge of programming/coding (e.g. HTML, R, regular expressions)
• Good understanding and interest in the current technology landscape: IT & computing, AI, machine learning, voice assistants, internet of things
• Experience in testing, data processing, database management,
• Formal linguistic education is a plus - preferably higher education (MA or MsC).

• Ability to work independently with confidence and little oversight
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
