As a Language Research Scientist on our team you will design and build machine learning models that power Alexa and you will build software components that let Alexa learn from data. You will collaborate closely with experts in machine learning and human language technology and contribute to advancing the state of the art in human language understanding systems.

Candidates bring along a background in speech and language technology and native or near-native knowledge of Italian or Portuguese as well as interest in working on language-specific challenges.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Design, development and maintenance of key system features.
• Performance analysis of spoken language processing systems, identifications of short-comings, pro-active work on algorithms and resources for improvement.
• Working in an Agile/Scrum environment to deliver high quality software and machine learning model artefacts in rapid increments.
• Refactoring existing software and model build recipes, establishing architectural principles, selecting design patterns.
• Work with internal customers to understand perspectives, coordinate and communicate approaches of improvement.
• Working with software engineers and scientist to investigate design approaches, prototype new technology and evaluate technical feasibility.
• Experience in communicating with customers, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
• Knowledge of Machine Learning and Spoken Language Processing and Linguistics and Phonetics
• 2+ years professional experience in software development.
• Native language knowledge of French, Spanish or Portuguese
• Experience mentoring junior engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective.
• Experience in contributing to complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers. Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through launch.
• Experience influencing software engineers and promoting best practices within your team.
• Hands-on expertise in many disparate technologies, experience with distributed computing and enterprise-wide systems.
• Experience with Python.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or higher degree in a relevant field (computational linguistic, computer science)
• 2+ years experience in the Spoken Language Processing domain
• Interest in languages, linguistics, machine learning
• Solid scripting skills
• Experience using Unix/Linux.
• Native or near-native fluency in Italian or Portuguese
• Dependable written and oral communication skills (English).
